Cost data

How much does SaaS link building cost in 2026?

The number nobody in this market will publish, assembled from the people who do research it. Per link, per month, and by category — with sources for all of it.

The short answer

SaaS link building costs $500–$1,250 per editorial placement and $800–$1,200 per digital PR placement, with the market average for one high-quality backlink at $508.95. Most monthly programmes run $3,000–$25,000, and 46.5% of buyers spend $5,000–$10,000 a month.

Almost nobody in this market publishes prices. The strongest content competitor for this search explicitly declines to give cost figures, and four of the five pages currently ranking are published by companies that sell link building and would rather quote you privately.

That is understandable commercially and useless to you as a buyer. So this page assembles what the organisations that actually research pricing have published, with the source against every figure.

The single most useful number

$508.95 is the average price SEOs say is acceptable for one high-quality backlink, according to Editorial.Link’s 2026 research. In 2022 the same figure was $350 — a 45% increase in four years. And 80.9% of respondents expect it to keep rising through 2027.

Carry that number into every sales call. It will not tell you whether a specific quote is good, but it will immediately tell you whether a quote is inside or well outside the market.

The spread here is the thing most buyers get wrong. These are not variations on one product — they are different products with a factor of nine between cheapest and dearest.

Link typeTypical costSource
Link insertion (niche edit)$141 typical; ~$600 on DR 50+Ahrefs
Guest post$220 average; up to $609 high qualityBuzzStream
Editorial / manual outreach$500–$1,250Siege Media
Digital PR placement$800–$1,200Siege Media

Two details inside that table matter more than the headline numbers.

Guest posts cost $295 direct from the site and $461 through a vendor. If you are paying a vendor rate, roughly a third of what you pay is coordination rather than placement. That can be entirely worth it — coordination is real work — but you should know that is what you are buying.

Link insertions are the cheapest and the most oversold. Ahrefs data puts the typical rate at $141. High-quality, high-traffic publishers rarely offer insertions at all, which means a proposal weighted towards them is a proposal weighted towards sites that will take anything. Ask why.

What it costs per month

Per-link pricing is only half the picture, because most agencies sell time and attention as well as units.

  • Typical monthly campaign budgets: $3,000–$25,000 (Siege Media)
  • 46.5% of buyers spend $5,000–$10,000 a month; 18% spend more than $10,000 (uSERP)
  • Average minimum monthly budget in high-difficulty niches: $8,406 (Editorial.Link)
  • Digital PR campaigns: $5,000–$10,000/month for simpler work, $8,000–$15,000 with custom content (Siege Media)

Published examples from specific agencies span nearly the whole range: $1,750 for five links with no minimum contract at one end, a $40,000 programme minimum at the other. Four of the twelve agencies we document publish a figure — the comparison table has the current numbers with sources.

Why your quote will differ from all of this

Four variables move the price, and knowing them is what lets you tell a fair quote from an ambitious one.

Your customer lifetime value. Agencies price against what a customer is worth to you. Above $12,000 LTV the market band is $800–$1,000+ per link. Between $7,000 and $12,000 it is $600–$800. This is not opportunism — higher LTV genuinely justifies competing for more contested placements.

Target site authority. A link insertion on a DR 50+ site runs about $600 against a $141 typical rate. Authority is most of the spread within any single link type.

Whether content is included. A guest post price with no writing in it is a different product from one with it, often by $150–$300. Ask which you are being quoted, every time.

Category difficulty. Competitive SaaS categories sit closer to that $8,406 high-difficulty minimum than to the market floor.

What the price does not tell you

Three things cost nothing to ask about and matter more than the rate.

How many links survive. Ahrefs found 66.5% of links built between 2013 and 2024 are now dead. Whatever you pay per link, what you own in two years is the proportion still live. A replacement policy is worth more than a $100 discount.

Whether the publisher was paid. Only 21.4% of link builders used manual outreach as their main strategy in 2025, down from 38.2% in 2024. Something replaced it. Ask what proportion of your placements will involve a payment to the publisher, and expect a straight answer.

What passes the quality bar. BuzzStream found only 1.37% of guest post opportunities meet quality standards. Volume pricing means buying from the rest. Get the disqualification criteria in writing.

Working out your own number

Take your monthly budget, divide by the per-link band for the type you need, and sanity-check the result against what your competitors have. If the answer is two links a month against competitors adding fifteen, the budget is the problem, not the agency.

The cost calculator runs exactly this using the published bands above — three inputs, a range in about thirty seconds, and no email required to see the result. If the number that comes back is uncomfortable, the fit quiz is the better next step: it is willing to tell you that this quarter is not the quarter.

Questions

What is a fair price for a SaaS backlink?

The market average for one high-quality backlink is $508.95. For SaaS specifically, editorial placements at $500–$1,250 are the normal working band. Below roughly $200 you are almost certainly buying marketplace inventory rather than earned placement.

How much should I budget monthly for SaaS link building?

Most programmes run $3,000–$25,000 a month, and 46.5% of buyers spend $5,000–$10,000. In high-difficulty niches the average minimum monthly budget is $8,406. Below about $1,500 a month, concentrate on one page rather than spreading across several.

Why is link building more expensive than it was?

The market average rose 45% between 2022 and 2026, from $350 to $508.95 per link, and 80.9% of SEOs expect further increases through 2027. Publisher placement fees rose 20–40% in two years as demand grew faster than the supply of credible sites.

Does a higher price mean a better link?

Not reliably, but the floor is real. Price mostly tracks the target site’s authority and audience, and those do correlate with value. What price does not tell you is whether the placement was earned or paid for, which matters more for how long it survives.
